Strainer area, pressure drop and maintenance
Specify a basket or cone strainer from debris duty, available area and planned cleaning access.
Separate line size from screen area
Pipe bore does not equal available filtration area. Basket length, blank margins, perforation open area and optional mesh liner all change effective flow area.
Allow for loaded condition
Pressure drop rises as retained solids block openings. Give expected flow, fluid viscosity and a maximum clean and dirty differential pressure when comparing constructions.
Plan removal
Check cover clearance, lifting handle, drainage and safe access. A long basket that cannot be removed from the housing is not a useful design.
