Distinguish pipe diameter from filtration area
Pipe bore does not equal available filtration area. Basket length, blank margins, perforation open area and optional mesh liner all change effective flow area.
Account for fouling during operation
Pressure drop rises as retained solids block openings. Give expected flow, fluid viscosity and a maximum clean and dirty differential pressure when comparing constructions.
Plan access for removal and maintenance
Check cover clearance, lifting handle, drainage and safe access. A long basket that cannot be removed from the housing is not a useful design.
Design review
Compare the effective screen surface with the pipe bore and expected solids load. Basket depth, blank margins, liner construction and support all affect accessible area. The housing must also have enough clearance to lift the loaded element out without damaging the lip, handle or seal. Use the actual fluid and flow range when comparing pressure-drop estimates.
Inspection and acceptance
Record clean and dirty differential-pressure limits, inspection interval, removal method and whether the element will be washed or replaced. A blocked screen can load its support differently from a clean screen. The inlet, outlet, cover and drain arrangement belong in the review of the complete strainer, even if the order is only for a replacement basket.
