Woven mesh aperture and open area
Select wire diameter and clear opening together; mesh count alone does not define either aperture or flow area.
Define the geometry
For a square plain weave, nominal clear opening is pitch minus wire diameter. Mesh count gives wires per unit length; wire diameter still has to be specified.
Compare open area
For a simple square grid, theoretical open-area fraction is approximately the square of clear opening divided by pitch. Crimp, weave type, tolerances and finishing alter practical results.
Order the finished form
Specify roll or cut size, edge finish, direction, flatness, material grade and any calendering. A cut screen also needs its installation seat and tolerance.
