Flanged filter inserts

A flanged filter insert combines a cylindrical or basket-shaped filtering body with a flange that locates, seals and retains the element in equipment.

Size the element around the duty

Housing fit and useful filtration area are separate checks.

01

Retention

Give aperture plus wire diameter for woven media, or a tested rating for porous media.

02

Effective area

Compare usable pleat area, excluding end-cap bands and blocked regions.

03

Connections

Provide seal diameters, groove dimensions, thread designation and insertion depth.

04

Pressure

Separate line pressure from differential pressure across the element; include cleaning reversal.

Construction

Media area, drainage and end sealing

  • Pleats need drainageClosely packed pleats can restrict flow between folds. More geometric area helps only when fluid can reach that area and contaminants can be removed.
  • Rigid versus flexible mediaSintered laminates offer a bonded screen structure. Fiber felt adds a depth-filtration pathway; it is not interchangeable with woven mesh of the same nominal rating.
  • End-cap jointsThe joint between media and cap forms part of the filtration boundary. A correctly sized O-ring cannot compensate for a leaking media seam.

Applications

Installed in housings where replacement and cleaning access matter.

Process liquid filtration

Removable elements for oil, resin and chemical liquids; material and seals follow actual chemistry.

Hot gas and vent duties

Metal media can suit elevated-temperature service; joints and seals may set the assembly limit.

Equipment replacement

Match the original flow direction and end connection before comparing media grades.

Cartridge checks that affect service

Inspect the complete flow boundary, not only overall length.

Quality control for filtration components

02Media and coreCheck media identity, pleat spacing and core continuity.
03Assembly integrityInspect longitudinal and cap joints; specify an integrity test when the duty requires one.

Questions before ordering

Does a longer cartridge always provide more flow?

It usually provides more media area, but ports, internal core, viscosity and housing losses may still limit flow. Compare pressure loss at the same fluid, temperature and contamination condition.

Can the cartridge be backwashed?

Backwashing needs media support in the reverse direction and joints that tolerate the cleaning cycle. A collapse rating in normal flow does not establish the reverse-pressure limit.

When is a rigid sintered cartridge preferable to a pleated mesh cartridge?

A rigid porous wall can simplify cleaning and support in some duties; a pleated mesh construction increases surface area within the same envelope. Compare retention, differential pressure and cleaning method at the required flow.
