A continuous seal around the filter interface

A gasket closes the joint between two clamped faces around the filter element. Its inner opening leaves the flow passage clear, while the annular contact area separates the intended flow path from the surrounding joint. We match the gasket outline to the end cap, seating shoulder or holder face so that the clamp load acts on a continuous sealing land.

Three profiles for different clamping arrangements

Annular gaskets suit circular seats with a clear central passage. Full-face gaskets extend across the mating face and include the required bolt holes. Drawing-cut gaskets add tabs, slots or non-circular openings to fit an equipment-specific holder. Molded profiles can incorporate a controlled lip or raised sealing feature when a flat cut part does not match the seat.

PTFE for chemically demanding joints

Virgin PTFE provides a chemically resistant sealing surface without an elastomer base. Common sheet-cut thicknesses are 1.0, 1.5, 2.0 and 3.0 mm. Specify virgin, filled or expanded PTFE explicitly: the different constructions have different compression and creep behavior. Select the thinnest section that accommodates the mating faces and closure travel.

Rubber compounds matched to the process fluid

EPDM is a useful starting choice for water-based systems and compatible aqueous cleaning processes. NBR suits mineral-oil service. FKM covers many oil, fuel and elevated-temperature chemical duties. Silicone offers flexibility over a broad temperature span for compatible static joints. Select the exact compound using the process fluid, cleaning agent, concentration and temperature together; material color is an identification option, not a grade specification.

Cut edges, holes and sealing land

The finished gasket should sit flat without extending into the active filter area or catching on a locating shoulder. Hole position, inner-edge clearance and local sealing width matter as much as the overall diameter. For a narrow seat, define the gasket and metal-part tolerances together to keep continuous contact around the full circumference.

Installation and replacement

Clean the mating faces, center the gasket and close the joint evenly using the equipment tightening sequence. Use the specified gasket thickness to preserve the intended filter stack height. After dismantling, replace a gasket that is permanently compressed, cut, hardened or chemically swollen. Pressure capability is established by the complete clamped joint, including its face geometry and fasteners.

Integration with the filter assembly

A flanged filter insert uses its metal flange to locate the element and its gasket to close the bypass path around that flange. The gasket’s inner edge clears the active opening, while its outer contour and bolt holes follow the mating face. Disc holders use the same separation of functions: the metal seat supports the filter and the gasket seals the joint. The assembly bill lists sealing position, profile, material and finished thickness independently from the filter-medium grade.

Selection guide

Include these details when discussing your requirements.

Start with the seat
Use a flat gasket for opposed sealing faces. Record the available sealing width, surface condition and closure travel before selecting thickness.
Match all fluid exposure
Include both the filtered fluid and cleaning chemicals. EPDM and NBR solve different compatibility needs.
Control stack height
An unnecessarily thick gasket changes the filter position and bolt loading. Set thickness alongside the metal component dimensions.
Keep the flow opening clear
Set the inner opening to clear the flow bore and exposed mesh without reducing the sealing land.

Frequently asked questions

How is a flat gasket different from an O-ring?

A flat gasket is compressed between faces over an annular or shaped area. An O-ring has a circular section and normally works in a designed groove. Choose the seal type from the joint geometry.

Which material suits water or oil?

EPDM is commonly selected for compatible water and aqueous cleaning service; NBR is commonly selected for mineral oils. FKM and PTFE cover additional chemical duties. Include the cleaning fluid in the material specification.

Is a thicker gasket always better?

No. Use enough thickness to accommodate the sealing faces while maintaining the designed closure height and clamp load. Extra thickness can increase deformation and relaxation.

Can you make full-face and irregular gaskets?

Yes. We supply annular, bolt-hole and contour-cut profiles. A dimensioned drawing should identify hole centers, local sealing widths and the assembly orientation.

Can the gasket be supplied with the filter?

Yes. Gaskets can be supplied as separate spares or as a set matched to the metal filter, holder and sealing position.

What determines pressure and temperature capability?

The compound and joint design work together. Specify operating and cleaning temperatures, pressure, face dimensions and clamp arrangement so the gasket is selected for that joint.
