Stainless Steel Filter Support Rings

KAIFIL manufactures stainless steel support rings for filter baskets, screen cylinders and filter end structures. Flat annular rings, formed collars and welded bands reinforce the component, support its seating edge and connect the filter body to the surrounding assembly.

A structural connection around the filter body

The support ring gives a thin screen or basket wall a defined perimeter and a place to transfer load into the seat, frame or adjoining component. It can reinforce a basket mouth, stiffen a cylindrical screen or carry an end support. The section is selected around the load path and installation envelope, with the active filtering area kept clear.

Flat annular support rings

A flat ring provides a broad radial seating surface. Plate-cut or stamped blanks can include bolt holes, tabs and indexing features in the same outline. The inside diameter clears the basket or flow opening, while the outside diameter and radial width establish the contact area on the housing seat.

Formed collars and welded bands

A formed collar creates an axial attachment surface around the filter wall. Rolled strip rings add circumferential reinforcement to cylindrical parts. A welded closed ring supplies a continuous perimeter; the drawing identifies weld location, joint preparation and the finished contact surface. For a welded-on ring, include both the free ring dimensions and the installed dimensions after joining.

Material and surface condition

304 stainless steel suits many general industrial filter assemblies. 316L is a common choice when increased corrosion resistance and welded construction are priorities. We can specify deburred contact edges, a blended weld area, pickling and passivation, or a polished surface to suit the component. Cleaning access and the adjacent mesh attachment are considered when selecting the finish.

Fit, roundness and weld distortion

The key checks are the finished seat diameter, ring width, section thickness, flatness or roundness, and joint condition. A ring can be dimensionally correct before welding yet pull the basket mouth out of round after attachment. Put the assembly datum and post-weld dimensions on the drawing so the completed filter fits the holder and can be removed for cleaning.

Supply as parts or as part of the filter

Support rings can be supplied loose for the customer’s fabrication process or joined to a basket, cylinder or support core. Define which surfaces locate the part, which carry load and which receive a gasket. The metal ring carries the structure; a separate gasket or O-ring provides sealing where the joint design requires it.

Integration with the filter assembly

A basket-mouth ring transfers the supported wall load into the housing seat. A cylindrical end collar provides an axial attachment surface for the screen or perforated core. The component drawing separates the free ring from the welded assembly dimensions, and the assembly inspection measures the finished seating face after joining. The ring, adjacent filter wall, weld and separate gasket form distinct entries in the bill of materials.

Coordinate the support ring with the housing flange

For a filter assembly mounted at an EN 1092-1 PN16 flange joint, the mating flange’s DN, outside diameter D, bolt-circle diameter k and hole group identify the surrounding connection geometry. The table covers DN25 through DN150. DN65 uses four holes, while DN80 through DN150 use eight; this change matters when positioning mounting tabs, extraction features and the basket rim relative to the joint.

The support-ring drawing separately defines ring OD, clear bore, radial seating width, plate or band thickness and the finished position after welding. The flange hole circle provides a common assembly datum where attachment features align with the housing. PN16 identifies the mating-flange series; the complete filter assembly’s duty is defined through the support-ring section, supported span, filter wall and joints. Specify the gasket land and removal clearance together with the ring’s installed seating face.

Selection guide

Include these details when discussing your requirements.

Locate the load path
Identify whether the ring rests on a seat, braces a screen wall or carries an end support.
Select radial or axial section
Use a flat ring for a broad seat; use an axial collar or band for wall attachment and circumferential reinforcement.
Keep the active area open
Set ring width and attachment details without covering more mesh than the assembly needs.
Define the delivered state
Separate free-ring dimensions from the finished basket or cylinder dimensions after welding.
Match finish to cleaning
Give attention to burrs, weld transitions and narrow crevices near the media.

Frequently asked questions

Is this a seal back-up ring?

This product is a metal structural support for the filter body. A polymer anti-extrusion back-up ring belongs to the seal groove and serves a different purpose.

What is the difference between a flat ring and a collar?

A flat ring offers radial seating width. A collar adds an axial wall or lip that can attach to, guide or reinforce the filter mouth. Select the section from the mating assembly.

Can you weld the ring to the filter basket?

Yes. We can supply the ring as a separate part or include the specified joint in a basket or cylinder assembly. The drawing defines the joining position and finished fit.

Does the ring itself determine the filter pressure rating?

The ring is one part of the load-bearing assembly. Its section, span, attachment and the filter wall work together under differential pressure. Define the complete assembly duty when selecting the section.

Which dimensions matter after welding?

Check the mating-seat diameter, roundness, seating-face flatness, installed height and clearance for removal. These govern how the finished filter fits the holder.

Can holes and mounting tabs be included?

Yes. Holes, tabs and seating features can be integrated into the ring outline or assembly, with their positions referenced to the installation datum.
