Plain-Weave Mesh Aperture Calculator
Estimate the clear square opening and approximate open area of plain-weave wire mesh from mesh count and wire diameter.
For a square plain weave, pitch in millimetres equals 25.4 divided by the number of openings per inch. Clear opening equals pitch minus wire diameter. Approximate open area is the square of clear opening divided by pitch, expressed as a percentage.
The result is a geometric estimate. A Dutch weave, twill weave, sintered laminate or metal fiber felt requires a different method. Nominal aperture does not establish a tested particle-retention rating.
