ASTM test sieve size reference

Laboratory sieve designations are a separate reference. ASTM No. 100 has a nominal 150 μm opening; a 100-mesh industrial cloth may have a different opening depending on wire diameter.

How to use the mesh size lookup

Choose a mesh count to see the wire diameters recorded for that count. Select a wire diameter to narrow the rows. If you know the required opening, enter it in μm or mm and choose the nearest, no-larger, no-smaller or exact match. Results come from the reference table; the tool does not invent intermediate specifications.

An exact search without a match shows three nearby records, explicitly labelled as alternatives. The difference column is the listed opening minus your target. Select a row to copy its specification or carry it into an inquiry. Material, dimensions, tolerances and availability still need confirmation.

What is 100 mesh in microns?

Mesh count alone does not determine the opening of industrial wire cloth. In this table, 100 mesh with 0.050 mm wire has a 204 μm opening; 0.090 mm wire gives 164 μm; 0.100 mm wire gives 154 μm. Always specify mesh count and wire diameter together.

ASTM No. 100 is a laboratory sieve designation with a nominal 150 μm opening. It is a separate reference from an industrial 100-mesh cloth with a listed 154 μm opening. Do not replace a product's recorded opening with a generic sieve conversion.

How is the opening checked?

For square plain weave with equal mesh counts and wire diameters in both directions, geometric opening in mm is 25.4 ÷ mesh count − wire diameter in mm. For 100 mesh and 0.100 mm wire, this gives 0.154 mm. The tool preserves the supplied table's rounded values rather than recalculating every row.

This relationship does not establish a tested filtration rating. Dutch weave, sintered laminates, felt and finished multilayer filters need their own specification and test basis. Confirm aperture tolerances, retention requirements and the relevant inspection method for your application.

What does the roll weight mean?

Each weight is the original reference value for a 1 m wide × 30 m long roll. For example, the table lists 15 kg for 100 mesh with 0.100 mm wire. The source does not state material or weighing conditions. Treat this as a reference, not confirmed net weight, packed shipping weight or a weight for every alloy.

What if my specification is not listed?

The table contains 164 combinations across 51 mesh counts; it is not a complete list of all manufacturable wire cloth. An unlisted combination is not automatically impossible, and a listed combination is not a stock promise. Send your required opening, wire diameter, weave, material, size, quantity and inspection requirements for review.
