Select slot width for the retained solids

Slot width is the narrow gap between adjacent profile wires. Particles smaller than this gap can pass; elongated or deformable particles may behave differently. Slot width alone does not establish a tested filtration efficiency. Use representative solids to validate critical separation.

Size the supporting structure

Profile wire size, support pitch and cylinder or panel span determine mechanical behaviour. Confirm operating and reverse-flow differential pressures separately.

Define service and cleaning flow directions

The open side of a wedge profile can help release captured solids in a specified flow orientation. Draw both service and cleaning flow arrows to avoid an inverted assembly.

Design review

Specify slot width with its tolerance, profile-wire orientation, support pitch and flow direction. Particle shape and orientation affect passage, so a slot number alone is not a process separation guarantee. For a panel or cylinder, confirm support span, end connections and any reverse-flow or backwash load before choosing a profile.

Inspection and acceptance

The order drawing should identify the measured slot direction, critical dimensions, joining details and installed clearance. Inspect representative slots across the finished form, including near welded edges where geometry may change. A customer process trial is needed when the acceptance criterion is actual solids retention or cleaning behaviour.

Worked example

For slot width s = 0.50 mm and profile-wire face width w = 1.50 mm, theoretical surface open area = s / (s + w) × 100 = 25%. Support rods, end margins and mounting reduce the exposed area of the assembly. This is a geometry example, not a guaranteed flow rate or separation result. Specify the slot tolerance, flow direction and support span separately, then confirm acceptance against the drawing and process trial.

Read flow direction together with the wire and support arrangement

The flow-direction drawing combines working-wire orientation and support placement. Circumferential and longitudinal screening wires create different cylinder layouts. Choose the view that matches the finished part and identify the active face, service arrow and reverse-cleaning arrow on the installation drawing.

Select surface-wire and support sections as distinct components. Profile identifiers in the cross-section illustration name the sections; the drawing defines their actual width, height and spacing. Measure the narrow opening on the active face and include positions near joints and end boundaries in the inspection plan.
